Joint replacement

treatment for lower limb injury
  • Joint replacements have become very common in England and Wales over the last few decades according to the National Joint Registry (NJR) statistics and the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership annual report in 2018. Joint replacements were initially associated with increased wear and tear due to old age (over 75 years).

  • Over the last few years, however, this has changed and 2018 saw a significant increase in patients requiring joint replacement services in not only hip and knee, which were previously the most common, but also in shoulder, elbow and ankle.

  • The main cause of joint replacements is osteoarthritis but serious or severe fractures that prove too complex to heal conservatively or repair surgically can result in younger patients requiring joint replacement.

  • Following joint replacement, mobility/movement can be impaired due to pain and the healing process of the fresh wound, and the severity depends on the individual’s previous mobility level.

  • Physiotherapy is key to restoring movement in the joint, joint stability and helping re-learn walking correctly, and coordinatively which can decrease risk of developing poor postural control associated with prolonged limping.

  • At David Physio & Sports Clinic, we offer a one-to-one rehabilitation service following joint replacement in an exclusively private clinic, which is well-equipped to cater for all ages. There is plenty free parking as well as access for all. We do also offer home visit services but terms and conditions apply.

  • It should however, be emphasised that to help ease pain and improve general gait/walking pattern, the patient should adhere to the provided exercise booklet for the recommended weeks following surgery. This can reduce the risk of falling and re-injury as well as gives the patient confidence as well as a better quality of life.

  • We offer this service on a one-to-one basis in an exclusive private clinic well equipped to cater for all ages and with plenty of parking as well as an access for all.
